Akanksha - living your dreams !

The Akanksha baby is now more than 9 months old.

What started as an experience to live has now been transformed into a life to experience - surely !!! Mar 31st was the first day when i had the chance to see a different life altogether - that was the day when i joined in as a 'volunteer' with Akanksha - a NGO which strives to help the less-privileged children to dream and accomplish their dreams too !!!

Today, if i dont hear the affectionate 'Good morning bhaiyya' chorus, my day doesnt start that well. We all (teachers, volunteers, social workers) are didis and bhaiyyas for the kids. There's one teacher, who has really made it a point to change them, and many volunteers like me who alternate between their other 'important' works. I am a part of the Akanksha family for 3 days of the week which gives an opportunity to change myself first and if possible the kids too. The kids are a varied lot between 5-8 yrs age group.

The kids also have responded to this effort in the best possible way. The journey from "mala nahi yet" to "didi i dont know" or "pani pahije" to " bhaiyya please may i drink water" has been absolutely refreshing. The smiles on faces, when didi praises them for coming early, sitting in their places, writing nicely, listening to us, speaking in english and so on .... are invaluable.

This is just the beginning of a new revolution - social revolution. And i'm glad that i can contribute in my own small way to work towards that.

I have heard many times - 'Be the change that you want to see' - so true !!!
